        Daniel S. Thomas, 82, of Minersville, passed away late Monday night at ManorCare, Pottsville.   

      Born in Minersville, he was a son of the late Daniel D. Thomas and Kathryn Lipka Thomas.

      Daniel was a 1952 graduate of Minersville High School. He worked in shipping and receiving and had worked at the Rohrer Mills, the Walk-in Shoe Store and at Schoeneman’s Beauty Supply, Pottsville. He was a member of the former St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Minersville and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Pottsville. He was a past commander of Black Diamond Navy Club Ship #257, Minersville, a member of American Legion Post #544, Minersville, a member of the U.S. Navy memorial, and a former member of the St. Stanislaus Holy Name Society and the St. Cecilia’s Choir.

       In earlier years, Dan was a worker at the annual Polish Day picnic and was a Bingo caller at the Union hall, Minersville. He was both a Phillies and New York Yankees fan. He was involved in Minersville’s Spirit Day planning and served as treasurer for 2 years. He loved sharing the stories of his service n the U.S. Navy, where he served from 1952 to 1961. He served aboard the USS Turner DD/DDR834 where he set up and was in charge of the ship’s storeroom. He was an active bowler, having bowled in the Fireman’s League. He was proud of his 288 high game and even made the 7/10 split.

     He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Davis and 2 brothers, Harold “Butch” Thomas and James Thomas.

     Dan is survived by his wife of 61 years, Frances J. Simosky Thomas; 2 sons, Daniel A. Thomas and his wife Maryann, Ashland and Robert J. Thomas and his wife Georgia, Pottsville; 2 grandchildren, Daniel Thomas, Ashland and Scott Thomas, Pottsville; 2 sisters, Sylvia Mauger, New Jersey and Helen Beach, Pine Grove and a brother Joseph Thomas, Pine Grove; nieces and nephews.

Graveside services with military honors will be private at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

The family would prefer contributions to Trinity Lutheran Church, 300 Arch St., Pottsville, Pa. 17901 or to Lift Your Spirits Performing Arts, PO Box 526, Ashland, Pa. 17921
