Maureen A Murphy

            Maureen A. Murphy of Minersville passed away into Eternal Life surrounded by her Loving Family at her side on Saturday Evening, May 26, 2017 at Lehigh Valley Hospital – Schuylkill East, Norwegian Street.

          Born in Pottsville, PA on February 17, 1940, she was the daughter of the late John J. and Clare E. (Deegan) Murphy. 

         She was a 1957 graduate of Nativity BVM High School and has also attended Minersville High School. She was employed by the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for 38 years. She was the District Fellowship Chairperson for the local Chapter of the Met Life Veterans Association.  She was also a member of the Life Office Management Association. She was last employed by Schuylkill IU #29 in the Special Education Office, Itinerant Staff.  She was a member of the PA State Employees Association and the National Education Association.  She has also served as a Board Member of Heidelberg Country Club, Bernville, PA. She was selected for the Queen's Court during Pottsville's Sequis Centennial Celebration.She was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Church, Minersville, PA

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother John J. Murphy, Jr.

         Survivors include her sister, C. Therese Murphy, Minersville, 3 brothers, William J. Murphy and his wife Patricia, West West Terrace, Francis M. Murphy and his wife Joanne, Minersville and Robert D. Murphy, Muncy, PA.  Nine Nephews, Jonathon, Ryan, Christopher, Matthew, Shane, Wyatt, Daniel, Andrew and Damon; three Nieces, Heather, Caitlin, and Bridget; three great-nephews, Johnny, Ari, and Dexter; two great nieces, Emily and Catrionia; an Aunt, Betty Brennan, Minersville and many cousins.

         Mass of Christian Burial  will be held at 10AM Friday in St. Michael the Archangel Church, 539 Sunbury St., Minersville. Rev. Christopher Zelonis will officiate. Relatives and friends may call on Thursday evening from 6 to 9 PM and Friday morning from 7 to 9:30AM at the Donald J. Butler Funeral Home, 328 Sunbury St. Minersville. Interment will be in Mt. Peace Cemetery, Minersville.

        In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer remembrances of Maureen in the form of contributions to the St. Michael the Archangel Church Memorial Fund or the Minersville Area School District Memorial Scholarship in Memory of John J. Murphy, Jr.  Donations will be accepted at the Funeral Home.
