Elvin E. "Barney" Comfort

Elvin E. “Barney” Comfort, 97, of Pottsville, passed away Tuesday morning at the Lehigh Valley Hospital Schuylkill East, Pottsville.

      Born in Seltzer, he was a son of the late George and Amelia Kamelwrite Comfort. 

      Elvin was a 1937 graduate of Pottsville High School. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force after serving for 24 years. He also worked for the Rogers Plumbing Co., Philadelphia. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Minersville. He was also a member of Amvets Post 180 Pottsville, the Seltzer Gun Club, the Seltzer Hose Co. and the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union.

      He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia and by his second wife Becky. Additionally, he was preceded in death by a son at birth,  4 sisters, Edith Bretzius, Augusta Lukshides, Helen Long and Emma Focht and 8 brothers Albert, George, Richard, Joseph, Frederik, Ennis “Sarge”, Raymond and Edwin. 

           Elvin is survived by a daughter, Christine Black, Pottsville; a son Brian and his wife Karen, Pottsville; a grandson Jared Black, Charleston SC., a granddaughter, Chandra Comfort, Pennbroke, Ma.; a great granddaughter Annabelle Comfort; a brother Herman Comfort, Wisconsin; nieces and nephews and his best buddy “Puss”.

      A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday morning at 11AM at the Donald J. Butler Funeral Home, 328 Sunbury St., Minersville. Rev. Krista Rehrig will officiate.  Relatives and friends may call on Saturday morning from 9AM to 11AM at the Funeral Home. Interment services with military honors will be private at the convenience of the family at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
