    John S. Butcavage, 84 of Llewellyn, passed away late Saturday evening at the Lehigh Valley Hospital Schuylkill, East Norwegian St., Pottsville

    Born in Minersville, he was a son of John W. and Anna Vershosky Butcavage. .

     John attended the the St. Stanislaus Elementary School, Minersville and was a graduate of Branch Twp High School, Class of 1951. After serving as an Army medic during the Korean war, he worked with his father in the coal industry. He later was a superintendent for Swatara Coal Company and Barren Coal Company. He began working at age 11 and did not retire until he was 78. He was a member of the former St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Minersville and a member of St. Matthew the Evangelist Church, Minersville. John served as a former member of the Branch Township Planning Commission and  was a member of the Rotary Club.

    John was a wonderful husband and father who devoted his life to his family’s happiness. Whether helping with homework, playing baseball in the yard with all the neighborhood kids, or taking trips to Wildwood, John always had time for children and grandchildren, even after working long hours. John loved to read, visit lifelong friends and take long rides with his wife, especially to casinos.

    In addition to his parents he was preceded in death in April of this year by his wife, the former Elaine Farrell; also a brother Richard Butcavage in 1996. .

     He is survived by a son, M. Jay Butcavage and his wife Nancy, Lexington, South Carolina; 3 daughters, Lisa Paul and her husband Gary, Llewellyn, Jane Earlosky and her husband Vince, Llewellyn and Kara Perzel and her husband Bryon, West West Terrace; 5 grandchildren, Kylene Powell, Sara Sukeena, Jaryd Earlosky, Michael Perzel and Logan Perzel; 6 great grandchildren, Emma Kate, Olivia and Jesse Powell, Garrett and Alexa Sukeena and Jaryd Earlosky Jr.; a brother Robert Butcavage, Elizabethtown; nieces and nephews.

  Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 PM and on Thursday morning from 7 to 9 AM at the Donald J. Butler Funeral Home, 328 Sunbury St., Minersville. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 AM Thursday in St. Matthew the Evangelist Church, 139 Spruce St, Minersville. Rev. Leo J. Maletz will officiate. Interment with military honors will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
