John W. Kopinetz, 79, of Woodside Rd., Forestville, passed away Saturday at his home. Born in Pottsville, he was a son of the late Walter and Stella Katchmarzyk Kopinetz.
He was a graduate of the former Cass Twp High School. He was a faithful member of St. Matthew the Evangelist Church, Minersville and of the former St. Stanislaus Kostka Church of Minersville. He was a plant manager for Quick Plastics in Orwigsburg for over 20 years and more recently was the custodian of St. Matthew the Evangelist Church and the former St. Stanislaus Kostka Church.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman his entire life. In addition, he enjoyed being outside gardening in his yard and took pleasure in feeding the birds. His top priority was his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Jesse Stickell.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, the former Patricia Zula; a daughter, Kimberly Stickell, Pottsville; 2 sons, John Kopinetz and his partner Joseph Galati, Carbondale and Jamie Kopinetz and his wife Jesse, Llewellyn; 6 grandchildren, Kayla Stickell, Jesse Stickell and Jade Stickell, Zachary Kopinetz, Blake Kopinetz and Brooke Kopinetz; 4 brothers, Michael and his wife Mary Ann, Woodside, Ronald and his wife Patricia, Primrose, Robert and his wife Jeanine, Primrose, and David and his wife Janet, Forestville; nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 10:30 AM in St. Matthew the Evangelist Church, 139 Spruce St., Minersville. Rev. Leo J. Maletz will officiate. Relative and friends may call at the Church on Friday morning from 9 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus #2 Cemetery, Minersville.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers contributions to the St. Matthew’s Church Memorial Fund.
