John "Jack" MickeyJanuary 7, 1939 ~ December 13, 2017 (age 78)
John “Jack” Mickey, 78, of Minersville passed away Thursday afternoon at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born in Pottsville, he was a son of the late the late John and Bertha Butcavage Mickey.
He was a 1956 graduate of Minersville High School and also attended Penn State University. He worked for the former Bell Telephone and retired as a Satellite technician with AT&T. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the former St.Stanislaus Kostka Church, Minersville.
Jack was an avid golfer very much missed golfing with his buddies because of his illness. He was interested in sports having played football, basketball and softball and was a devoted fan of the Philadelphia pro sports teams and Penn State Football.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a his wife, the former Mary Jane Truscott and sisters Marion “Babe” Mickey and Joan Greis..
He is survived by a son, Matthew and his wife Kathleen, Pottsville; a daughter Marla Held and her husband Frank, Winfield, Pa.; a brother Mark Mickey, Minersville, a sister Diane Karpulk, Pottsville; 8 grandchildren, nephews and his two best friends, his dog Rex and his cat Maggie.
Funeral Services will be held at 7PM Sunday evening from the Donald J. Butler Funeral Home, 328 Sunbury St., Minersville. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 5 to 8 PM. Interment will be in St Stanislaus #2 Cemetery, Minersville.
The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions to either the Hillside SPCA, P.O. Box 233, 51 SPCA Rd., Pottsville or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN. 38105. Contributions will be accepted at the funeral home.
