Betty L. Burke, 82, of Primrose, passed away Tuesday night at Lehigh Valley Hospital East in Pottsville.
Born at home in Coal Castle, June 9, 1940, she was he daughter of the late Louis J. and Anna M. Ford Stephen. Betty was the wife of Thomas E. Burke who was killed in an accident at work in 1985. She was also preceded in death by a son Kevin M. Burke in 1968 who was 3 days old.
She attended St. Kieran’s Grade School, Heckscherville, and was a 1958 graduate of Nativity B.V.M. High School. After graduation, Betty worked in Harrisburg in a clerical position. Later she worked at M&Q, and Jackson Blouse. She was a retired garment worker and was last employed as a trimmer at Creatine Apparel, Primrose. She was a member of the former St. Kieran’s Church, Heckscherville and a member of St. Michael’s Church of Holy Family Parish, Minersville.
In addition to her parents, husband and son, she was also preceded in death by 4 brothers, Robert (Cobbs) Stephen in 1980, Joseph Stephen in 1989, Jim Stephen in 2007 and Vincent Stephen (Spouse Carol) in 2016; also, a sister Mary (Stephen) Canfield (Spouse Joe) in 2017; Brother-in-Law Joseph Purcell.
She is survived by a daughter Karen Chatcho and her husband Craig with whom she resided; a granddaughter Chelsea M. Chatcho; a brother, Francis
(Cisco) Stephen and a sister Rita Purcell; Sisters-in-Law; Joann Stephen, Peg Stephen and Maryann Stephen; nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St Michael’s Church of Holy Family Parish, 539 Sunbury St, Minersville at 10:30 AM Monday. Rev. Jason Stokes will officiate. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Monday from 8AM until the time of the service. Interment will be in St. Kieran’s #2 Cemetery, Llewellyn.
