Cyril E. Murphy

During a February snowstorm  in 1927, Cyril E. Murphy entered this world . The weather that day was cold and unforgiving, but the man he would become was nothing but kind and warm. He was born to the modest household of William and Mary Murphy in Forestville,PA , He was the youngest of 10 siblings and the last survivor of his immediate family. He went on to graduate from the former Pottsville Catholic High School.

   After graduation, Cyril fought in the U.S. Army for his country during WWII.  When he returned home, he became a mechanic and worked for his brother John at his service station on the Minersville / Pottsville Highway before opening his own service station in Seltzer, PA which he proudly called “Murphy’s Citgo,” and made it into a family business run by not only him, but also his son Cyril Jr., grandson Matthew, and brother Jim. He also drove school bus for the Minersville Area School District. He married the late Angela Murphy (DeFalco) and raised two children in the town he loved Minersville, PA. A devout Catholic, he was a 3rd generation member of the former St. Vincent De Paul Church, Minersville and a staunch member of St. Michael’s Church of Holy Family Parish and a member of the Minersville Lions Club.

  January 1, 2025, Cyril E. Murphy departed this world while residing at Wynnwood House Nursing Home in State College, PA. Cyril is survived by his two children and their spouses Diane Crowe (Murphy) and Russell Crowe and Cyril Murphy Jr. and Melinda Murphy (Frank); his three grandchildren Kelly Howells (Crowe) and her husband Sean Howells, Matthew Murphy, Pamela Worlledge (Murphy) and her husband Dan Worlledge, and his two great grandchildren Samuel Worlledge and Olivia Worlledge.

A Celebration of Life Mass and Christian Burial will be held on February 11th at 11AM in St Michael’s Church of Holy Family Parish, Minersville, 539 Sunbury St., Minersville. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Hillside. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Minersville Public Library, 220 South 4th St., Minersville,  in Memory of Cyril E. Murphy.
