The Happy Fisherman, Harold D. Sausser, 92, passed away Nov.9,2024, at his home on the Loyalsock Creek/Barbour’s surrounded by his loving family. Jesus came and took his hand to lead him to Heaven’s Fishing Holewhere the bass ae big and always biting.
Harold was the son of the late Myron and Eleanor (Peowie) Sausser of Ashland. Born, Dec.22, 1931 in Ashland, he graduated from Ashland High School and attended Lycoming College. .He married Fay Young of Frackville on Dec 27, 1952. He served in the Army during the Korean conflict The Veteran’s Administration was very helpful to Harold, enabling him to stay in his home during his later years..
He initially worked for his father in the monument business before starting his own monument company in 1966 Freidensburg. He attended many monument conventions and served as President of the Monument Builders of North America for a term. He was the 5th generation in the business.
He joined the Schuylkill Haven Lion’s Club in 1966. He became a very active member. He helped start the Lions Club Ambulance Service in Schuylkill Haven and served as a volunteer during those initial startup years. He transferred to the Wayne Township Lions Club in 1991, where he became the club’s first member to receive the Melvin Jones Fellow Award, one of the highest awards a Lion can earn. For 58 years he served the local community through the Lion’s Club, until his death.
He made his own boat ,“ The Tub”, that he took to the Susquehanna Riverr and to Canada for many fishing trips. In 1972 he used ‘The Tub” to rescue 2 people from the Schuylkill River near Auburn, during Hurricane Agnes. His favorite spot was Loyalsock Creek where he created his legacy by passing on his love of nature, the woods, hunting and fishing to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his siblings Ethel, Jean, Myron Jr. and great grandson Flynnagan Blue. Harold will be buried in Christ Church Cemetery, Fountain Springs, Pa.
Harold would have celebrated his 72nd wedding anniversary next month with his loving devoted wife Fay. He is survived by his wife and 4 children,
Harold D. Jr and wife Clara, Orwigsburg, Michelle Miller and husband Jim in
S. Manheim Twp, Cindy in Auburn and Michael in Wayne Township. He was also blessed with 9 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
There will be a Funeral Service Saturday at 11AM in the Jerusalem Lutheran Church, 252 Dock St.,Schuylkill Haven. Visitation will be Saturday morning from 10AM until the time of the service at the Church.
In lieu of flowers, Harold requested contributions be sent Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing (PHWFF) which is a non-profit organization that uses fly fishing as a therapeutic tool to help disabled veterans and military service members, Project Healing Waters P.O.
