John Sternick, 94, of Primrose, passed away Friday morning at his home surrounded by his family.
Born in Black Heath, he was the son of the late John and Antonina Sternick.
He was a 1945 graduate of the former Cass Twp High school and was a World war II veteran. He was a member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, Minersville. He was a member of the Byzantine male Choir and also played with local bands. John worked as a truck driver for many years, retired and the went back to school at the age of 57 and worked as a machinist before retiring. With great joy, he directed the choir at St. Nicholas Church for many, many years.
He was preceded in death by his wife the former Irene Polinsky and a son John David.
He is survived by a daughter, Joan Weiderhold and her husband Daniel, Primrose; a son Christopher Sternick and his wife Melissa, Primrose; a Daughter-in-law Jean, Mohnton; 6 grandchildren, Adam Weiderhold, Dana Allaband, Mykaihla Sternick, Jennifer Sternick, Julie Sternick, Jaclyn Sternick; 5 great grandchildren; a sister, Josephine Laychock; nieces and nephews.
Requiem Divine Liturgy will be at 11AM Wednesday in St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 415 Front St, Minersville. Reverend Mark Fesniak will officiate. Friends may call at the Donald J. Butler Funeral Home, 328 Sunbury St., Minersville, on Wednesday morning from 7AM to 10:30 AM
Internment will be in St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Branch Twp. The family would prefer remembrances of John in the form of contributions to St. Nicholas School.
