William 'Bill' S. Rutecky, 74, of Palo Alto, formerly of Minersville, passed away Wednesday May 10 2023 at Orwigsburg Center.
Born in Pottsville, October 6, 1948, He was a son of the late Stanley “Elmer” and Dorothy “Adele' (Rosser) Rutecky.
William was a 1967 graduate of Minersville Area High school where he played Football and played the Tuba in the marching band. He went on to serve in the US Army in Radio Communications in Turkey and Okinawa during the Vietnam Conflict. He worked at Garden State Tannery in Fleetwood for 30+ years, until they closed. He then worked for Hexcel until his retirement. He enjoyed working with his hands making and fixing things in the garage at home.
He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Pottsville where he served on Vestry, was a church breakfast cook and the bell ringer. He was an avid member of Pottsville 3rd Brigade Band where he served as President and Treasurer. He was a lifetime member and Volunteer Firefighter for Citizens fire Co., Palo Alto. Bill was also a lifetime member of the New Minersville Fire Co. and New Minersville Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed going to the American Sons of Italy, Palo Alto where he played Pinochle and Rumpsh. William was involved with the Schuylkill Veteran’s Association, where he helped to organize trips to Washington DC.
He was preceded in death by two brothers John 'Jackie' and Barry Rutecky.
Bill is survived by his wife of 50 years Christine (Troilo) Rutecky of Palo Alto; a daughter Melissa Rozetar and her husband James F. of Minersville; a son William Rutecky and his wife Lisa of Manville, NJ; 2 Brothers Bryn Rutecky of Branchdale; Bruce Rutecky of Minserville; a sister Dorothy Reichert of Minersville; 3 Grandchildren Danielle and Hallie Rozetar; Liam Rutecky; Nieces, Nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank the nurses at Compassus as well as the nurses and staff at the Orwigsburg Rehabilitation Center for their compassion and excellent care.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday May 17, 2023 at the Trinity Episcopal Church, 200 S. 2nd St. Pottsville PA, 17901. with Rev. Dr. Kurt Kovalovich officiating. Friends may call from 10:00-11:00AM at the church. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Marion Price Trust at the church address above.
